Chisto (Pure: Intoxication) is a new performance project exploring internalised xenophobia towards my Russian background as a physical and embodied phenomenon.
The research begins with the question: How can internalised xenophobia be hidden through action? Through physical improvisation, I will explore actions of hiding, covering, adapting, imitating, cleansing, correcting, and revealing, developing a physical language that can form the basis for a larger performance.
A central element is a ritual of cleansing—not as therapy, but as a theatrical action. Through this ritual, I want to explore the tension between sincerity, humour, absurdity, resistance, and the uncertainty of what there is to cleanse in the first place.
The residency will focus on movement research, objects, text, sound, and audience interaction. Rather than a fixed choreography, I aim to develop a flexible structure that can shift through the presence of the audience. The residency will end with a 20–30 minute work-in-progress showing, followed by an informal conversation.
Lana Lisa Granerud is a performance artist and performative storyteller with a Master’s degree from Accademia Dimitri. Her practice explores the relationship between the body, objects, and visual art. She is interested in how movement, physical challenges, and abstraction can create unexpected encounters and become tools for developing a distinctive physical language.
