For this workshop, I would like to share a movement practice I have been developing, partially based on falling. I want to combine more traditional floorwork exercises with creative tasks that explore the idea of falling. In addition to offering a clear physical exploration, falling carries many symbolic and theatrical connotations. Through repetition, development, and disruption, we will play with both the abstraction and recognition of these connotations.
Iannes Bruylant was born in Ghent, Belgium. Until the age of 21 he combined a high-level gymnastics career (Top 5 Belgium) with a bachelor’s degree in Medicine (Ghent University, BE). Upon completion he joined the Bachelor Dancer/Maker program at Artez, School of the Arts (NL).
As a dancer he has worked and performed with Jo Strømgen Kompani, Nagelhus Schia Productions, Panta Rei Danseteater and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. His choreographies have toured in Belgium, Netherlands, Norway & Germany and he was a finalist and prize winner at the renowned Hannover international choreography competition.
