The class will centre around the mobilisation of our multidirectional body and space awareness. Through simple exercises we will work through finding connections, weight, tension, lightness and co response in our bodies and between bodies. Finding what kind of choices one can make when dancing with others.
Orfee Schuijt (FR/NL) is a dancer and choreographer based in Oslo, Norway. Originally from France, she holds a BA from the Amsterdam School of the Arts (Theaterschool) and a Master’s degree in New Performative Practices from DOCH in Stockholm. Her artistic practice is deeply interdisciplinary, exploring sensory relationships between animated and inanimate bodies. Working from the dancer’s perspective, she focuses on embodiment, the development of scores, and the translation of internal and external connections into physical form.
As a performer, Schuijt has worked with acclaimed choreographers including Eivind Seljeseth, Janne Camilla Lyster, Heine & Yukiko Avdal, Francesco Scavetta, Arno Schuitemaker, Keren Levi, and Itamar Serussi. From 2017 to 2020, she collaborated with Norwegian experimental pop artist Jenny Hval, touring internationally and creating performative concerts and exhibition formats linked to Hval’s album releases. These works were presented at major venues and festivals such as MoMA PS1, Øya Festival, Roskilde Festival, Big Ears, Arcosanti, and the Ultima Festival.
Schuijt’s choreographic works—including Thing Power, Fabulation, and Shaking the Libidinous—have been presented at international venues and festivals such as Blackbox Teater (Oslo), Rimi/Imir (Stavanger), Weld (Stockholm), Ehkå Spring Roll Festival (Turku), and Rosendal Teater (Trondheim). In collaboration with Bára Sigfúsdóttir, she was nominated for Choreographer of the Year for Fabulation at the Icelandic Performing Arts Awards in 2023. She received a three-year working grant from Arts Council Norway in 2018 and has been a member of the Norwegian Dancers’ Alliance (SKUDA) since that year.
