About the event

Celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2023 and the opening of our new studio, we want to offer four residencies between March and June to different artists or artist groups. The residencies include one week, Monday to Friday from 12:00-17:00, of free workspace in PRAXIS Oslo’s 100 sqm studio space in Rosenhoff, ending with an open sharing on the last day.

Theresa Carlsen and Frederikke Hooge Steen Berg will share their artistic research with their project “Multiphonic selves - a human can hide another” in the format of work-in-progress showing and talk.

There is free access to the sharing, but registration is required.

DESCRIPTION

“Multiphonic selves - a human can hide another” is the working title of a physical, voice and sound-based performative study of the subconscious and instinctual human. Theresa Carlsen and Frederikke Hooge Steen Berg wish to dive into the physical, psychological and emotional imprints that exist within our subconscious-selves and which have shaped us through life. By working with the body, voice and making an atmospheric and multiphonic soundscape, we wish to create a sensorial performative situation.

One purpose of the research is to investigate the relation between the performer and audience. How can we create a situation where the sound, as the driving force, in collaboration with the body, streams through the audience and creates pictures, memories and a sensorial rather than logical experience of the performative situation.

In our open-sharing the 26th of May we wish to explore this research with an audience to see how they experience the work in-progress. We wish to have a short showing followed by an after-talk where we would love to get feedback from the audience for our continuous work.

BIOs

Theresa Carlsen is an actor educated from The National Academy of Theatre in Oslo (2022), with a BA in acting. Prior to her BA she took a one-year education in Dance-theater at The Academy of music, dance and theater in Copenhagen (2017) and a BA in Dramaturgy at Aarhus University (2016). Theresa’s major interests lie in working and exploring the cross-field between dance, theater and performance and she has been working with this in her previous independent work/productions. Furthermore she is occupied with the contrast and connection between humor and seriousness, with authenticity, presence and the relation between the artist and the audience.

Frederikke Hooge Steen Berg is an actor and performer educated from the Norwegian Theatre Academy (2022), with a BA in acting. Besides her bachelor she has a background in music, Physical Theater, and studied one year of Psychomotor Therapy. During her studies she has developed a performative language that is founded in compositional writing and music. Frederikke strives to explore the theater space as a generous meeting through play and humor - investigating how the narratives of our lived archives can heighten our listening. Inviting in both the grotesque and mundane through psychophysical and spatial characters that exhibits the strangeness of humanity through layers of abstraction. Where rhythm and fiction can transform the experienced gaze upon ourselves and the relation to our surroundings.
