About the event

Our first lab will be facilitated by Ingvild Bertelsen.

Lab desciption: Make friends with your habits

For this lab I wish to question the tendency of wanting to drastically change the way you move while improvising. I see in some parts of the milieu of improvisation, that it’s important to not get stuck into repetitive patterns, and that one should avoid habits of movement all together. However, looking at Eleanor Bauer’s essay “Effing the ineffable” it is clear that the time to establish other ways of looking at the habits we have is needed. After all, wanting to constantly change how you move is a habit as well.

The lab will focus on individual exploration of movement, however, sharing with others will also occur.

Warmup will be a guided improvisation.

More from Ingvild Bertelsen: I’m a dance artist and performer with a long experience in collective structures, art and dance improvisation. I’m one of the founders of DANSEatelier- a collective situated in Copenhagen. As a collective we have received both local and international recognition, funding, and praise for our influence on the Danish dance scene. I have also, as a freelancer, performed across Europe, both in my own and in other’s choreographies in cities as Oslo, Gothenburg, Bratislava and Brussels I am an expert in improvisation and sharing complexity, as well as explosiveness in a physical form. My work is a contribution to the notion of giving space for intricate dance performances.

Working in the professional field since 2015, I wish to continue to develop and play with scores for improvisation and other methods to create movements for play, learning and research I’m currently occupied with my MA in Dance at Oslo National Academy of The Arts (KHiO).
