About the event

Skeletal System

Tuesday evenings

September, October, November (no class Oct 1)

with Certified Body-Mind Centering® Practitioners Otto Ramstad, Gry Kipperberg and Olive Bieringa

Our skeletal system provides us with our basic supporting structure. It is composed of our bones and joints and is the place where we create our blood. The bones lever us through space and support our weight in relationship to gravity and the shape of our movements through space. The spaces within the joints give us the possibility of movement and provide the axes around which our movement occurs.

Our skeletal system gives our body the basic form through which we can locomote through space, act on the environment, and sculpt and create the energy forms in space that we call movement. Through embodying our skeletal system, our consciousness becomes structurally organized, providing the supporting ground for our thoughts, the leverage for our ideas, and the fulcrums or spaces between our ideas for the articulation and understanding of their relationships. It provides the foundation for the psychophysical qualities of clarity, effortlessness and form.

Somatic practice is an integrated and embodied approach to movement and consciousness which can be practiced by anybody irregardless of age, ability, disability, or gender. Together we will create a generative place for movement exploration, evolution and dancing.

Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad collaborate as the BodyCartography Project for 25 years making performances, films, installations, festivals and workshops internationally. They run the Body-Mind Centering® Somatic Movement Education certification in Melbourne at Somatic Education Australia.

Gry Kipperberg is a dance artist based in Oslo. She studied at Khio and Merce Cunningham Studio in New York and has worked with several companies, choreographers, and other dancers since 1990. In 1999 she established the company Wee together with Francesco Scavetta, with whom she has worked and toured extensively internationally. Throughout her career Gry has studied and practiced various somatic practices and was certified as a BMC Practitioner in 2022. As a dancer she has received several grants, was awarded the Rolf Gamlengprisen in 2012 and is employed by Skuespiller-og Danseralliansen since December 2012.
